The Critic

"I don't care if he's on vacation."

"I'm terribly sorry, but there's nothing I can do."

"We scheduled this meeting only a couple weeks ago. I can't believe it."

"Please accept my sincerest apologies for the mix-up. But it's been quite hectic at the house the last few days."

(silence)

"If you wait a few days and come back..."

"You can't be serious. Do you know who I am?"

"Yes, of course. We all do."

"Well?"

"Yes, but you see, there's nobody here who can help you. Just a few days more and you can talk to him yourself."

"A few days? You said he's coming back June 23rd."

"Yes. I don't know what to say. But surely, it would be more helpful for you to talk to him yourself?"

"This is a hell of a way..."

"I'm sorry?"

"This is a hell of a way to get girls to sleep with him."

"I don't think I understand."

"Trying to get models in bed doesn't make for an interesting book."

(silence)

"Don't think I can't see through all this 'melancholy' bullshit. Melancholy Korean my foot. Sounds more like a raving lunatic."
